Allegation of Research Misconducts

The Journal of Islamic Entrepreneurship and Business Research (JIEBR) is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in academic publishing. Research misconduct—including fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, and plagiarism—undermines the integrity of scholarly research and will not be tolerated.

  1. Definition of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Fabrication: Making up data or results and recording or reporting them as if they were real.
  • Falsification: Manipulating research materials, equipment, processes, or omitting or altering data or results in such a way that the research is not accurately represented.
  • Plagiarism: Using another person’s ideas, processes, results, or words without proper attribution.
  • Citation Manipulation: Excessive or inappropriate self-citation, coercive citation, or the deliberate inclusion of irrelevant citations to inflate metrics.
  1. Handling Allegations of Research Misconduct

When an allegation of misconduct is reported, JIEBR will follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines to conduct a fair and thorough investigation. The process includes:

  • Initial Assessment:
    • The editorial board will review the validity of the allegation and determine if it falls under research misconduct.
    • If necessary, the journal may consult independent experts for evaluation.
  • Notification to the Author(s):
    • The corresponding author will be informed of the allegations and will be given an opportunity to respond.
    • All co-authors will be notified if the misconduct involves multiple contributors.
  • Investigation and Decision:
    • The editorial board will assess the response and decide whether further action is required.
    • If misconduct is confirmed, appropriate actions will be taken, such as rejection of the manuscript, issuing corrections, or retractions.
  • Institutional Involvement:
    • In serious cases, JIEBR may notify the authors' affiliated institutions to conduct further investigations.
  1. Consequences of Research Misconduct

If misconduct is confirmed, JIEBR may take the following actions:

  • Manuscript Rejection: If a submitted manuscript contains misconduct, it will be rejected immediately.
  • Retraction of Published Articles: If misconduct is found in a published paper, the journal will issue a formal retraction notice linked to the original article.
  • Publication of an Expression of Concern: If an investigation is inconclusive but raises ethical concerns, an expression of concern may be published.
  • Banning from Future Submissions: Authors found guilty of misconduct may be banned from submitting to the journal for a defined period.
  1. Retraction Policy

A published article may be retracted if:

  • There is clear evidence that findings are unreliable due to misconduct or major errors.
  • The article involves plagiarism, redundant publication, or unethical research.
  • Authors fail to disclose significant conflicts of interest affecting research integrity.

Retractions follow the COPE Retraction Guidelines, ensuring transparency and accountability in academic publishing.

By enforcing these policies, JIEBR upholds the integrity of Islamic entrepreneurship and business research, ensuring that all published work contributes to the advancement of ethical and high-quality scholarship.
