All investigations are conducted with fairness, objectivity, and strict confidentiality.

Definition of Research and Publication Misconduct

Research and publication misconduct include, but are not limited to, the following practices:

  • Fabrication: Inventing data, results, citations, or research findings and presenting them as genuine.
  • Falsification: Manipulating research materials, equipment, processes, images, or selectively altering, omitting, or misrepresenting data or results.
  • Plagiarism: Using another person’s ideas, processes, data, or words without proper acknowledgment or citation, including self-plagiarism and unattributed paraphrasing.
  • Redundant or Duplicate Publication: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or publishing substantially similar research in multiple venues without appropriate disclosure and justification.
  • Improper Authorship: Excluding individuals who made significant scholarly contributions (ghost authorship) or including individuals who did not contribute substantially (guest or honorary authorship).
  • Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest: Failing to disclose financial support, institutional affiliations, or personal relationships that may influence the research or its interpretation.
  • Ethical Violations in Research: Conducting research involving human participants or sensitive data without appropriate ethical approval or informed consent where required.

Procedure for Handling Allegations of Misconduct

  1. Initial Assessment:
Upon receiving an allegation of misconduct, the Editor-in-Chief and editorial board will conduct a preliminary assessment to determine whether the claim is credible, supported by evidence, and within the scope of the journal’s responsibility. At this stage, the matter will be treated confidentially.
  2. Formal Investigation:
If the allegation is deemed credible, a formal investigation will be initiated. The corresponding author will be contacted and provided with the details of the allegation and an opportunity to respond within a specified timeframe. When necessary, the journal may consult independent experts or notify the relevant institutional authorities.
  3. Evaluation and Decision:
After reviewing the evidence and responses, the editorial board will determine the appropriate course of action:
    • If misconduct is confirmed, actions may include manuscript rejection, publication of corrections or retractions, removal of the article from the journal’s record (with clear retraction notice), notification of the author’s institution, and temporary or permanent prohibition from future submissions.
    • If the allegation is not substantiated, the case will be formally closed and documented confidentially.
    • If evidence is inconclusive, the journal may issue an expression of concern while further investigation is ongoing.
  4. Transparency and Correction of the Scholarly Record:
MJCID will publish corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, or retractions when necessary to maintain the integrity of the academic record. Retraction notices will clearly state the reasons for the retraction and will remain linked to the original article.

Multidisciplinary Journal of Contemporary Islamic Discourse (MJCID) is dedicated to safeguarding the integrity of scholarly communication and ensuring that ethical standards are upheld at every stage of the publication process.
